How to Create a Seaside Autumn Tablescape
31 Days of DIY Projects. Project Ten: How to Create a Seaside Autumn Tablescape.
Create a beautifully blended seaside and Autumn tablescape in your home! Gather seashells, sea glass, succulents, fresh flowers, blue glass bottles and vases, and any other seaside inspired items you have. Combine them with white mini pumpkins for each place setting for that perfect Fall inspired look.
Traditionally Fall does not bring images of the beach, seaside or ocean to mind. Seashells in Autumn? Not a direct correlation. I don’t go all out, but I do love to incorporate pieces of Fall into my home to celebrate the season.
Today I’m teaching you how to create a lovely Seaside & Autumn Tablescape.
Gather seashells, sea glass, succulents, fresh flowers, blue glass bottles and vases, and any other seaside inspired items you have on hand around your home. Pick up enough white mini pumpkins for each place setting.
I didn’t use everything I gathered. Instead as I put the tablescape together I see what all works together. This way I had options to create from.
Start with a off-white or cream tablecloth. I used a table runner with Cream, Red, Light Brown and Olive Green. The goal is to use a blend of complimentary Beach and Autumn colors for this tablescape. These two color combinations actually work really well together because Blue and Orange are complimentary colors on the color wheel. We are using variations and shades of these two colors.
I really like to layer items. I spray painted four crystal plates copper to add a vibrant Autumn color to my tablescape. Stack a smaller plate on your dinner plate and add your pumpkin on top. The copper plates look beautiful between my white plates and the white mini pumpkins!
As you create layers you also create visual levels. Down the center of my table on top of my runner I used different heights and sized bottles and vases for my hydrangea. Start in the middle with your vases and work your way out. Things don’t have to be perfectly symmetrical just balanced. I used a vintage silver serving tray and arranged a carafe (I used a a vase), a couple of potted succulents and seashells on it. I layered a decorative nest with a dish filled with seashells nestled on top of it. To continue the seaside theme I added another dish with seashells and a jar of seaglass.
Staging is one of my favorite things to do. I love to use things I have on hand. To create this tablescape I only had to pick up a few things to pair with the decor already in my home. Flowers and seasonal produce – like adorable mini pumpkins – can instantly transform any space in your home! A bouquet of hydrangeas and mini pumpkins were the perfect finishing touches! How do you set your table?
Happy DIYing!
