Sunshine Blogger Award

Hello beautiful Happily Dwell readers! I’m Naomi, the voice behind Happily Dwell (formerly My Fair Olinda). Blogging for the past four years has been a place to share my creative passions with you. It’s been awhile since I’ve shared what I’m all about! I love to create, to go on adventures and explore, to have deep conversations with friends and to laugh with uninhibited joy! I have a passion for people, to see them thrive and to pour into relationships. I started blogging because I just can’t not create! I love to take something and make something new from it, I enjoy the transformation process of DIY and creating warm inviting spaces in my home.

By day I’m the Office Manager at a church in Southern California. I get to organize, plan and facilitate as a major part of my job. When I’m not working my day job I love to take pictures, create do it yourself projects, blog and do graphic design.

What creative passions do you pursue?

One of the fun parts of being a blogger is making online connections and building relationships. My friend Dedra Davis of Dedra Writes recently nominated me for The Sunshine Blogger Award. Thank you so much for nominating me Dedra! Go check Dedra’s blog out for lots of wonderful posts about life, finding your bravery and life in Waco, Texas.

Here are the 11 questions Dedra asked me:

  1. Coffee or tea and how do you take yours?

I like both, but I’m definitely coffee obsessed. I drink too much coffee! My go to at home is a nice espresso roast made in my French Press. At the coffee shop I love vanilla lattes, cappuccinos and macchiatos. And you may have noticed coffee a topic of conversation here in the blog and filling my Instagram!

  2. When you were little, did you want to be a writer?

When I was little I wanted to be all sorts of things! I want to be a teacher, a writer, an interior designer or a fashion designer. I’ve definitely always loved to create. I loved sketching dress designs or planning room layouts as a kid. When it comes to writing, I’ve always loved literature and reading and have always valued stories!

  3. What is the hardest aspect of blogging for you?

Consistency and content topics. I’m a little all over the place sometimes. I have lists of ideas for posts. The toughest thing for me is honing in on a post topic to write on and building an entire post around my topic. Once I’m inspired and find my flow, I’m good to go.

  4. Describe your desk and what is on it?

I love my desk. Is a beautiful light wood desk, possibly a white washed birch, I’m not sure. It was gifted to me and it’s a great surface for projects and taking pictures on. I have all sorts of stuff on my desk, candles, mason jars with paperclips and tacks, mugs with pens and pencils, a ring dish (because I have a habit of taking my jewelry off wherever I’m sitting), a little bronze camel figurine, a basket full of papers and several notebooks and my planner.

  5. Where is the weirdest place you have written?

Hmm, I write in a lot of different places, but I’m not sure any of them classify as weird. I write sitting at my desk, at the table, on my couch, in my bed, at the coffee shop, in an airport lounge, on an airplane, even on my phone when an idea strikes.

  6. Dog or cat person? Or both or neither?

Both! I really love both. I grew up with dogs and I always wanted a cat. If I had to choose I would say dogs, mostly because that’s what I grew up with.

  7. Where are you going on vacation next?

Probably South Dakota. Sounds exotic right 😉 I have family that moved there recently so I go where my family is! I’d love to go somewhere in Europe next Summer, but don’t have any plans at this time.

  8. What is your perfect temperature outside? And why?

70 degrees baby! I love being outside and this is that comfortable not too hot, not too cold, temperature. That and I prefer to go bare foot as often as possible.

  9. Do you prefer blue or black ink? Or another color?

I’ve never really thought about it. If I had my preference I think I’d choose blue. It’s really more about how the pen writes than the color of the pen.

  10. What is your favorite flower?  Have you ever written about it?

I love both Dahlias and Bougainville. I actually did a post on a bouquet of Dahlias I bought at a Malibu farmer’s market and Bougainvillea are in a post I did on Camarillo & Santa Barbara. Not to mention Bougainvillea shows up in my Instagram feed quite a bit.

  11. Milk chocolate or dark? And how often do you have it?

Dark chocolate has really grown on me. I never turn down a classic milk chocolate Hersey’s bar, but I love the selection of dark chocolate at Trader Joe’s. I love their Dark Chocolate Caramel with Black Sea Salt. Both bars are in my fridge currently. I never eat a whole bar anymore, but I like a bite or two on most evenings!
