Go to Canva.com, search for website and click on the result with a link icon next to it.

There are hundreds of templates to choose from.

You can hover over the template previews with your mouse to see all of the pages in the template. Templates come with anywhere from 1 to 9 pages depending on what kind of webpage you are going to be designing.

This doesn’t mean you’ll have a multiple page site, just “pages” inside Canva that act as sections of your one page website.

Designing Your Free Site

Once you’ve chosen a website template open it up in Canva to edit your site.

Go through the document and edit

  • colors
  • fonts
  • photos
  • text
  • contact info

Once you have made all the edits to your document hit the preview button to see what it will look like once it’s published.

Be sure to proofread your site and make any needed corrections.

You’ll also want to name your site (document) as this will be shown once you publish your site.

When designing your Canva website, be sure to name your document and preview before publishing.

Now you are ready to publish!

But wait… what if you want more than a one page site? Read on for my clever tip.

Clever Hack for adding more webpages

What if you want more than one webpage to your site?

Start by creating your main website, which will serve as your homepage.

Then before you publish, create additional websites in Canva, publish them and then link to them from your homepage website.

How to add a link to your webpage in Canva

Each of these website will serve as an additional page to your site.

Tip: Use the link feature to link to your social media profiles and email list sign up as well!

You can also go back after you’ve published and make updates to your websites. Including creating these pages and linking to them.

Publishing your canva website

Now it’s time to publish your website and take it live!

Before you hit the Publish Website button be sure to name your document. The name of your document will be shown on the browser tab preview as well as Google.

Essentially you will want to title your document as the name of your website.

Now it’s time to hit the Publish Website button.

Resize on mobile

The “Resize on mobile” checkbox will automatically be checked and I recommend leaving it checked. This means that the sight will automatically be resized for the mobile device it is being viewed on.

Choose navigation type

Next you have the option of “without navigation” or “with navigation”.

If you choose the “with navigation” option, Canva will create a navigation menu at the top of your website. This will correspond with the page sections inside of your document.

Choose a domain type

  • Free domain (free site with Canva extension)
  • Purchase a new domain (your own unique url)
  • Use my existing domain (if you already own a domain)

Get a free site with Canva by choosing the Free domain option. Your url will include your username followed by .my.canva.site

You also have the option of purchasing a unique domain through Canva. The advantage to this option is that your site won’t have the bulky .my.canva.site extension on it!

If you choose the second option and purchase your domain through Canva, you can search available sites right in Canva and purchase for an average of $20/year based on availability.

Your third option is the use a domain you already own and publish to it. You do however, need to have a Canva Pro, Canva for Teams or Canva for Education plan to use this option.

Choose your domain type and hit the continue button.

Review Settings

The follow steps are for the Free domain option.

Your URL: Canva will auto generate your url. You can add text after the backslash if you’d like.

Browser Tab Preview: The text here will show in the browser tab preview and Google search. You can also add your logo from your brand kit here (Canva Pro feature).

Website Description: Type in a short sentence or two here (limit 160 characters). This will show up online under the website title and URL in search results.

Permissions

You also have two permission setting options. One to password protect and one to hide your site from search engines.

If you are creating a private resource page, resource library, freebie offering, etc. these options are definitely beneficial.

Publish

Now hit publish and your site is live!

If you need to update your site, simply make the needed changes to your Canva document and publish again to take your changes live.

You can also unpublish your site if necessary. Go into the document, click on Publish Website and click on the unpublish site button.
