31 Days of DIY Projects. Day Nine: DIY Shelf Hooks

DIY Shelf Hooks

I am very thankful today for a Saturday with no set agenda. Of course I wanted to hustle through the day and accomplish a ton of stuff, which – woot woot, I did! I started my day at the Farmer’s Market to buy my weekly flowers and picked up kale, lettuce and strawberries to make a salad for dinner tonight. Somehow that’s always a great kickstart to the day. I even took the time to clean my house before prepping and photographing a week’s worth of projects to be made. As I head into the second week of this Write 31 Days series, I’m so glad I took it on. I knew it would be a challenge to stay on top of things, but it’s been a good challenge.

I’ve had these shelves from Target for years and for today’s DIY I decided it was time for an update. Adding hooks to the bottom is a great way to get a little extra display and storage out of a shelf.

Materials needed: Shelf (or shelves), screwdriver, ruler, pencil, utility hooks.

Step one: Measure out where you are placing your hooks and mark with your pencil. I used five hooks for this project.

Step two: Start your holes for your utility hooks with a screwdriver. Your utility hooks will go in much easier this way. I recommend a hand held over power tool in this case.

Step three: Screw in your utility hooks.

Step four: Hang on the wall and display jewelry of choice!

p.s. If you’re wondering what I did with the second shelf. It serves nicely as extra storage for toilet paper in the bathroom. I simply hung it above the toilet paper holder and stock extras on it. For a fun Pinterest idea, wrap your extra tp rolls in fabric to make decorative pumpkins!
