How to make a DIY Ombre Vase
31 Days of DIY Projects. Project Seven: DIY Ombre Vase.
What colors make ombre?
To create an ombre effect you need at least two colors to blend together. For this gorgeous ombre vase I blended three colors together. The trick to a really beautiful ombre is in the blending.
How do you blend two colors of spray paint?
The key to blending two colors of spray paint together is to spray light layers a little at a time. For this ombre vase we will be creating a three color gradient. But I’ve also used spray paint in layers to on top of each other to create new colors. Check out this candy dish for my tips on creating a vintage look with spray paint.

How to make a DIY Ombre Vase:
Materials Needed:
Three cans of spray paint (I used pink, a robbin’s egg blue and copper) and a clear glass vase.
Step One:
Wash and dry your vase before spray painting it. A clean vase will give you a nice smooth result when painting it. You do not want any dust creating bumps underneath your paint.
Step Two:
Spray paint the outside of the vase in three separate layers. Rotate the vase as you go. I spray paint into a box for the easiest, no fuss, no mess spray painting ever! The box keeps the mist contained and there’s zero clean up afterwards.
Start with a layer of pink on top and then blue on the bottom. Spray the copper in the middle. Apply layers lightly as you go to achieve a smooth blending between layers.
I sprayed a third of the vase at a time, letting the paint dry before rotating and spraying again. Continue spraying on paint in stages until the vase is fully covered. It takes at least three light layers for full coverage.
Be patient and work in stages. You want a smooth blend so it’s very important you lightly coat and layer as you go. The key to this ombre blend was to spray the the copper coat after the pink and blue coats each time.
Step Three:
Let paint dry and then fill with your favorite flowers!
