Embroidery Hoop Globe DIY
31 Days of DIY Projects. Project Fourteen: Embroidery Hoop Globe DIY.
Happy December! With less than a month away from Christmas my calendar is beyond full! Is this a hectic month for you or do you get to slow down a bit? I always think I’ll have more time than I do. It’s amazing how the days just slip past us. At the beginning of October I started a 31 day challenge to post 31 posts in 31 days. My plan was to post 31 blog posts in a row. Each post was to feature a DIY project. This is the third year I’ve taken on the challenge. This time it was more than I could keep up with. I’ve been learning a lot along the way. Challenges are great, but sometimes we take ones on that aren’t realistic. I often have a whole list of ideas, but the ideas come faster than the execution! Does that happen to you too?
Inspired by an image I spotted on Pinterest, this Embroidery Hoop Globe DIY is the perfect afternoon project. My goal in creating this series of 31 DIY’s has been to keep the projects simple and budget friendly. I use coupons for all my craft supplies and combine my new supplies with ones I already have on hand. I was drawn in by the old world look a globe inspires. I find more and more that I love to bring in vintage elements into my decor. I’m always on the hunt for a pretty hard cover book, a vintage camera, old keys, or a unique glass dish. What do you keep an eye out for?
For this project I picked up two sets of small embroidery hoops for only $1.49 each and used a 20% off coupon (at Michael’s)!
Materials Needed: Two 4 inch bamboo embroidery hoop sets, wood stain, paint brush, wire and pliers. You’ll use one of the inner rings and the two outer rings to create your globe.
How to make an Embroidery Hoop Globe DIY:
Step one: Paint your bamboo embroidery hoops with 2 coats of wood stain. Let hoops dry completely between stains.
Step two: Over lap hoops placing the smaller hoop inside the first outer hoop. Overlap your second outer hoop on top of the other two. Adjust until the globe rings line up evenly.
Step three: Use a small piece of wire (2 inches) to bind the screws of the embroidery hoops together. Trim wire as needed.
Happy DIYing!
xoxo Naomi
