You can post up to ten slides per carousel. I highly recommend using all ten slides to your advantage.

Slides 3-8 Deliver value and educate

Slide 9: Use a Call to Action

Slide 10: Ask them to follow

Create stunning Carousel posts with Canva - Start with a hook.

Slide One: Your Carousel Cover.

The very first slide in your Carousel post is the perfect place for an attention-grabbing hook!

Compelling hooks create interest, curiosity, elicit an emotion, and drive a reader to learn more.

But, what exactly is a hook and how do you write a hook that grabs attention?

A hook is an opening statement or question written to pique your readers curiosity. An effective hook should grab their attention so that they want to know more.

Hooks can come in the form of a statement, fact, quote, story, opinion, or question.

Attention-grabbing hooks do at least one of five things.

  • They create an emotional response.
  • They provide a specific benefit to your reader.
  • They create intrigue or curiosity.
  • They share a unique perspective.
  • They are bold and thought-provoking.

Here are a few fill-in-the-blank hook ideas to get you started:

Create stunning Carousel posts with Canva - Create a second hook.

Slide Two: Your Second Hook.

One of the greatest benefits of Instagram Carousels is that your Carousel is shown to your followers twice in their feed.

If your follower doesn’t see your Carousel cover slide, Instagram will show them the post again using the second slide.

This means writing a second, powerful, hook for your Carousel post on the second slide.

This second hook should cover the same topic, but be a new hook that supports the first hook.

Think of this hook as a tagline for the first one. It should stand alone but still complement the first hook.

Create stunning Carousel posts with Canva - Deliver value packed content.

Slides 3-8: Value Packed Content.

Slides three through eight should be filled with value.

Educational content is perfect for Carousel posts. You can share one key value point per slide. Or you can create lists and combine several quick points per slide.

Be sure to deliver insightful content that serves and educates your followers on these slides. This will keep them scrolling through your carousel.

Create stunning Carousel posts with Canva - Use a call to action.

Slide 9: Call To Action

Think about the action you want your audience to take.

Do you want comments, saves, shares or follows?

Use slide nine to start conversations, engagement, and prompt action.

Final Slide: Invitation to Follow

The final slide in your Carousel is the perfect opportunity to invite your audience to follow!

Include the same image on this final slide as in your profile to create brand recognition.

I find that this slide is optional. If you have a powerful CTA that you want your audience to follow, you may want to end with that CTA silde.

Using the final slide in your carousel serves a couple of powerful purposes. It invites people who discovered you on the explore page to become new followers! Secondly, it’s a great way to send your audience to your profile and the offer you have in your link in bio.

Use this last slide to either convert people into followers or convert followers into customers.

The anatomy of a Carousel slide:

I recommend using a 1080×1350 rectangle slide to take up as much real estate on someone’s screen as possible! Utilize the space on your post to your advantage.

There are several spots I recommend taking advantage of on your Carousel slide.

  1. Place an arrow in the upper left corner pointing to where your profile image will appear in the Instagram feed.
  2. Create a header at the top of your image with a CTA to follow you for more niche-specific tips.
  3. Add your bio pic, name, and handle to the bottom left corner to create brand recognition.
  4. Add a bookmark save icon to the bottom right corner to encourage your followers to save your posts for later!
  5. Use arrows to let people know to keep swiping left.

Now you are ready to create stunning carousel posts with Canva! Got questions? Let me know in the comments and I’ll answer every single on of them!
